A big welcome to Dr. John Abatzoglou, Associate Professor in the Department of Management of Complex Systems at the University of California, Merced.

As director of the Climatology Lab, Dr. Abatzoglou’s empirical analysis and modeling work has improved our understanding of the earth’s climate system — across temporal and geographic scales — with topics ranging from megadrought and food security to fire, water and snow. His lab's US mega-fire projection data was recently featured in the New York Times' interactive article on How Climate Migration Will Reshape America.

In recent work, Dr. Abatzoglou and colleagues have identified a Large contribution from anthropogenic warming to an emerging North American megadrought (Science, 2020) and analyzed Agricultural risks from changing snowmelt (Nature Climate Change, 2020) —  highlghting how climate change associated with Changing Snowmelt Threatens Valley Ag, Way of Life in our own backyard.
